Manager Software

For this newly created role, we are seeking an experienced Manager Software to join the dynamic Research and Development (R&D) team of Alfen. As a company that prides itself on producing physical products, this role is pivotal in crafting the software that powers their innovative creations.

You will be at the forefront of interdisciplinary collaboration, working closely with hardware development and test & compliance teams to ensure seamless integration of embedded software solutions. you will play a pivotal role in leading and coaching several software development teams to success. You will be responsible for overseeing the entire software development lifecycle, from conceptualization to delivery, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget.

The team of indirect reports is 75 employees (and counting). A characteristic feature is the presence of sub-teams led by team leads. You will manage 3 discipline teams (with 3 team leads), but this will grow to 4 or 5 in the near future. An important aspect of the role is creating and executing (future) vision and strategy, continuous improvement programs, and planning and reporting across disciplines and create synergy between the software teams. You don't need to be able to think at the specialist level but must be capable of guiding technical discussions. You play a crucial role in establishing connections with other teams such as Test & Compliance and external parties. You report to the R&D Manager. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for driving innovation.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• Proven experience in (embedded) software development within a relevant/similar manufacturing environment where physical products are produced, with at least 5 years in a managerial role
• Proven track record with continuous improvement and creating synergy between teams
• Strong knowledge of software development methodologies, tools, and best practices
• Experience with test automation, architecture and preferably experience with programming in Python, C++, or C
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and work effectively under pressure
• Experience working in an Agile and Waterfall environment is preferred
• Fluent in English and preferably Dutch
• Dutch resident
