The offered programme is designed to provide both the necessary practical training and theoretical learning environment to enable the candidate to qualify for participation in the ECVAA board examinations upon completion of the residency programme.
The successful candidate will join our discipline of anaesthesia, which comprises divisions within the Department of Companion Animals and the Department of Equine Sciences. The discipline currently consists of three ECVAA diplomates, one board eligible anaesthetist, one senior clinical anaesthetist, one resident and several dedicated anaesthesia technicians and interns. Together, we annually provide clinical anaesthesia and analgesia for approximately 3,100 domestic animals and 630 horses for a wide range of medical and surgical conditions.
The major tasks of the appointee will consist of clinical duties and associated teaching (Bachelor and Master level students and interns). The successful applicant is expected to participate in an out-of-hours rota. The Faculty offers an ECVAA approved residency training programme with a duration of three years, with the intention to enable the candidate to sit the ECVAA examination in the following year.
To gain experience in ruminant and exotic animal anaesthesia at other ECVAA or ACVAA approved training centres, the candidate will be enabled to follow two weeks of externships abroad in both the second and third year of the residency.
You are a veterinarian with an EU-recognized diploma and have undergone 1 - 1.5 years of relevant pre-residency training, preferably rotating through various clinical disciplines, although an anaesthesia-only internship will also be acceptable (with preference for experience across species). Non-clinical internships or the same amount of time spent in clinical practice will be allowable only after scrutiny by the ECVAA and only if evidence of an adequate clinical component can be provided.
We are looking for a highly motivated, conscientious candidate with excellent communication skills, who enjoys working in a team and shares our objectives of providing the highest quality of patient care. The ideal candidate is not only keen to enhance his/her own knowledge of veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia but is also dedicated to contribute to the continuous scientific progress within this field and within our Faculty.
We offer a fulltime position, initially for a period of one year, starting date We offer a temporary full-time position for one year, starting date September 1st 2018, with continuation of the programme for a successive two years’ period upon satisfactory performance.
Depending on the outcome of re-evaluation of performance at the end of the 3-year programme, the contract may be extended with another 16 months to allow for participation in the ECVAA examinations.
The gross monthly salary is based on experience and qualifications, and ranges from a minimum of €2,640 to a maximum of €3,044 (i.e. salary scale 10 according to the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities) on a fulltime basis. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday allowance of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8,3%. For more information: Working at Utrecht University.
