Talented urban youth – Transition from primary to secondary education
- Burgemeester Oudlaan, Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland
- Tijdelijk contract / Tijdelijke opdracht
- Uren per week:
- 40 uur
This project focuses on the transition from primary to secondary education in an urban environment. Research indicates that this transition is a vulnerable period in general, but specifically for pupils from a low socio-economic status (SES) and migrant background (Kurpershoek et al, 2016). In this transition, differences with their counterparts from high SES and majority backgrounds seem to be amplified. The project aims to shed light on the relevant underlying social-psychological processes during this transition. This will be done by describing and explaining processes in this transition using the Generation R database (https://www.generationr.nl). Furthermore, the project intends to design and test an intervention that aims to support the transition for primary school pupils (and their parents) in group 8 heading towards either the HAVO or VWO track.
The candidate is responsible for the experimental design, task selection, data collection, data analysis, and writing scientific papers for leading international peer reviewed scientific journals. The PhD candidate will participate in scientific meetings and departmental presentations.
