The Department of Data Science and Knowledge Engineering (DKE) is one of the departments of the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences. DKE, existing for 25 years, has a strong international orientation which is reflected in the number of international students and staff members. It distinguishes itself within Maastricht University for its beta-oriented (STEM) signature. DKE is steadily increasing in the size of its student body and is therefore looking for an Education Development Officer.
To advise and support teaching staff and education management as to upgrading, (re)designing, developing, and implementing educational components such as courses, specialisations, minors, portfolio, and project-centered education;
To advise the educational management in improving the existing quality assurance systems;
To evaluate and improve the current assessment programme;
To analyse the needs of educational resources in terms of quality and quantity;
To organise training sessions for teaching staff.
The Education Development Officer will work closely together with the Director of Studies, the education management, teaching staff, the Programme Committee, the Board of Examiners and the Test Committee.
A master’s degree related to educational sciences or professional equivalence;
Preferably 2 years of experience with educational design in higher education related to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics);
Ability to translate scientific developments and research results of the relevant discipline into curriculum development in higher education;
Affinity with the use of modern ICT applications in education;
Excellent communication skills and fluency in English and Dutch;
Familiarity with the Dutch higher education system;
Excellent organisational skills.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, inspiring, and proactive team player with an open and positive attitude. Somebody who likes to take initiative, is innovative and flexible, and is able to put a solution into effect within the time frame as envisaged.
We offer an initial contract for a period of 12 months, starting as soon as possible. After receiving a positive evaluation the contract can be extended for one year. The position is eligible for a permanent contract based on performance and developments at DKE. The salary is competitive, depending on qualifications and work experience. The salary will be set in scale 10 of the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities, with an expected minimum of € 2.588,- and maximum of € 4.084,- for a full-time position of 38 hours/week. In addition there is an 8% holiday and 8.3% year-end allowance.
Non-Dutch applicants may be eligible for favourable tax treatment (30 % rule).
