The M3i Group is embedded the Technical Medical (TechMed) Centre. The TechMed centre is a leading Innovation Hub impacting healthcare by excellent Research, Innovation and Educational programs. It is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, ranging from research labs, preclinical testbeds and simulated hospital environments.
Are you interested in conducting research with state-of-the-art endovascular and imaging methods? We are looking for a motivated and skilled PhD to work on the interaction between sac filling techniques and aortic stent grafts for abdominal aortic aneurysms. This will entail both in vitro and in vivo work. In current clinical practice ~20-25% of the patients undergo a reintervention after stent placement due to endoleaks and stent migration. To reduce the number of reinterventions prophylactic use of EVAR grafts in combination with polymer injection may be the key innovation, stabilizing the graft and providing extra seal. However, little fundamental knowledge is available supporting this innovative idea. Obtaining this knowledge is crucial to perform data-decision making prior to applying the technique in patients. The current project will include extensive in vitro testing of the interaction between the stents and polymer. Thereafter a clinical pilot study (N = 25) will be performed to evaluate the treatment solution in vivo.
You have a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or Technical Medicine. You have affinity both with in vitro lab work and setting up and performing a clinical study. Preferably you are familiar with medical image analyses based on (dynamic) CT imaging.
You are an excellent team player in an enthusiastic group of scientists and engineers working on a common theme.
You are fluent in English and able to collaborate intensively with industrial and academic parties in regular meetings and work visits.
