Functieomschrijving

The tenure track candidate will be encouraged to develop a largely externally funded research programme in the field of Land Use research, Sustainable Food Systems and the connection between these fields. The appointee is expected to teach, conduct research, and fulfil limited administrative duties in support of the strong teaching and research base. Teaching involves courses in Environmental Sciences, Ecosystem Management and Sustainable Land Use for various BSc and MSc programmes. The candidate is expected to supervise BSc and MSc student projects. The candidate should show academic leadership, maintain a high publication output, and raise competitive research funding. On the longer term, the candidate is expected to build up a successful group around his/her field of expertise.

Functie-eisen

We offer a challenging position at an assistant professor level a geographer with a PhD in environmental sciences or geography and a research interest in one or more of the following, or related themes: Land use change, Food systems, Food-water-energy nexus, Spatial modelling of human-environment systems. The candidate should have a significant experience in academic teaching and have strong quantitative methodological skills.

Conditions

The starting date is on or before 1 October 2018. We offer a tenure track position, initially for the duration of 5 years. After 1 and 3 years the performance will be evaluated in terms of teaching, publication record, and acquisition of prestigious personal grants or equivalent project funding. After a successful evaluation permanent employment will be granted and a path will be outlined for future academic development.
