Functieomschrijving

Are you the promising environmental and nature economist who will support public and private policy makers on how to integrate economics with the analysis of food and other biomass production impacts on climate, energy, water and other natural resources?

We are looking for a talented colleague with a market- and customer-oriented attitude and a great affinity for applied scientific research. Experience in conducting research projects involving competing claims for land of various functions like agriculture, recreation and housing for sustainable and climate-proof rural planning, the development of sustainable nature-inclusive solutions, and the provision of food for metropoles is a must. You should have the capability and the ambition to execute projects in that field. Your most important activities in doing so will be:
  • Conducting research activities and leading smaller research projects, including both quantitative and qualitative research on impacts of food and other biomass production on natural resources with an emphasis on cost-benefit and cost effectiveness analyses.
  • Working in multidisciplinary project teams that vary in size and complexity. These may vary from a few colleagues at Wageningen Economic Research to larger teams consisting of researchers from different organisations. An example of this would be other organisational divisions such as Wageningen Environmental Research but also national and international consortia.
  • Maintaining regular contact with your clients, whereby you proactively and sufficiently adapt to their wishes and needs. Clients include the Ministries of LNV and I&W, PBL, international organisations and business, and the European Commission (including DG RTD).
  • Contributing to the acquisition of new research projects, including from your active network in environmental and nature economics, as well as actively contributing to knowledge development and method/product innovation.
We have seven expertise groups at Wageningen Economic Research. You will be working in the expertise group Green Economy and Land Use. This expertise group is focused on a national and international market of governments, NGOs and business with research and advice. The group works on the economic perspective and sustainable development of green and blue environments via research on global challenges like climate-neutral food production, water security, biodiversity restoration and stakeholder engagement.

Functie-eisen

You have:

  • completed an MSc in environmental or nature economics, plus 3-6 years of research experience;
  • highly developed analytical skills and knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods, particularly cost-benefit and cost effectiveness analysis;
  • a client-driven interest in applying economic research in public and private domains;
  • an interest in and a network involving environmental and nature economics;
  • the ability and experience to work as a team-player in international, multidisciplinary teams in complex project environments;
  • insight into the domain and the entrepreneurial capacity to transform innovative ideas into concrete projects and products;
  • experience in publishing research results in reports and peer-reviewed journals;
  • the capacity to communicate and collaborate engagingly;
  • excellent Dutch as well as English written and spoken communication skills (given the intensive interaction with Dutch clients, excellent command of Dutch is obligatory).

Conditions

We offer you a meaningful job with, depending on your experience, a competitive salary from a minimum of €3.336,- to a maximum of €5.183,- for a full working week of 36 hours in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for the Wageningen Research (scale 11). In addition, an employment contract of 0.8 FTE is negotiable. We also offer:

  • a structural end-of-year bonus of 3%;
  • excellent training opportunities and secondary employment conditions;

  • excellent pension plan through ABP;
  • 171 vacation hours, the possibility to purchase extra and good supplementary leave schemes;
  • the possibility to work a maximum of 40 hours per week and in this way build up a maximum of 204 compensation hours per year;
