We seek a highly motivated and ambitious postdoc candidate or PhD candidate, who will design, synthesize, and characterize polymer materials based on associating polyelectrolytes. Building on previous work in our group on complexation of oppositely charged polyelectrolytes in solution, you will explore the possibilities to use complexation for the design of novel, solid materials. The project will combine chemical synthesis of specific polyelectrolytes, characterization of their complexation behaviour, and study of the material properties using state-of-the art experimental techniques. The project will be embedded in the Physical Chemistry and Soft Matter group at Wageningen University.
For this position we ask for a candidate with a PhD in soft matter, polymer chemistry, physical chemistry or chemical engineering with experience with polymer science (synthesis and/or characterization) or we ask for a candidate with an MSc degree in polymer chemistry, physical chemistry, materials chemistry or soft matter chemistry.
ConditionsFor the post doc position we offer a temporary position with an average working time of 38 hours per week, for the period of 1 year, with the possibility of extension for a total of 3 years. Gross salary € 4084,00 maximum per month.
For the PhD position we a temporary position for a period of 1.5 years with extension of 2.5 years after successful evaluation. Gross salary per month € 2222,- in the first year rising up to €2840,- per month in the fourth year.
We not only offer a competitive salary but also good (study) leave and a pension of the ABP Pension Fund.

Delivering a substantial contribution to the quality of life. That's our focus - each and every day. Within our domain of good and safe food & food production, food security and a healthy living environment, we search for answers to issues affecting society - such as sustainable food production, climate change and alternative energy. Of course, we don't do this alone. Every day, 5000 people work on 'the quality of life', turning ideas into reality, on a global scale.
Could you be one of these people? We give you the space you need.
Physical Chemistry and Soft Matter at Wageningen University is interested in phenomena at the nanoscale, where creative chemistry is essential, complex physics is a rule rather than an exception and biology comes the life. The laboratory works on Soft Matter in the broadest sense of the word, combining experiment and theory, chemistry and physics and fundamental and applied science. The laboratory has a large range of state-of-the art equipment. See www.pcc.wur.nl
